  14. 1) What is Handy Mail ListServer
  15. --------------------------------
  16. Handy Mail ListServer is a software that automates mailing lists and archives.
  17. Users may add themselves to mailing lists supported by ListServer, post messages,
  18. review the members of a list, etc. The software also maintains hierarchical
  19. archives of files that users may get.

  21. 2) How do I use the ListServer
  22. ------------------------------
  23. All users interact with ListServer by email. ListServer understands a very
  24. limited set of requests and expects a fixed syntax for each one of those. Users
  25. send email to listserver when they wish to have a request processed. If
  26. users want to send a message to a mailing list, they email to list-name@address
  27. instead.

  29. 3) Regular users
  30. ------------------
  31. Usually, the first thing that a regular user will want to do is find out which
  32. lists are available for subscription. User should then send email to listserver
  33. with a 'lists' request in the body of the message.

  35. Suppose the listserver has a list called 'fun', user can then subscribes to it
  36. by sending another email to listserver with the following request:

  38.                 subscribe fun <User Name>
  39.  
  40. where <User Name> is the full name of the user.
  41.  
  42. Once subscribed, user may send messages to fun@address. User may remove himself
  43. from that list later on by issuing a:

  45.                 unsubscribe fun
  46.  
  47. request to listserver.

  49. For extensive information on all requests, listserver accepts requests
  50. like 'help [topic]' where 'topic' is a request.

  52. 4) Archives
  53. -----------
  54. Each mailing list may automatically archived messages. This can be
  55. useful for newcomers who want to catch up with the discussion.
